Programs

Your child is going through a period of rapid growth and development in Lower Prep. It's a period when close relationships are formed, when kids start to find their place in the world, and when they start to wonder about it. Framlingham College Prep School is aware that these years are a significant part of any child's life story, and we are here to help, mentor, and inspire everyone to have their big break.

The goal is to support your child during this critical period, instilling qualities of independence and self-organization while challenging them academically and preparing them to thrive in the real world. This ranges from the nurturing environment at the end of their Pre-Prep journey to the increasing maturity of the Upper Prep years. Above all, Framlingham College Prep School enables children to savor and enjoy these priceless early years.

Framlingham College Prep School works to lay the groundwork for a lifetime love of learning in its students during the Lower Prep years. to foster a sense of natural interest in each student and to motivate them to put in effort and push themselves on their individual learning paths.

In the main subjects of English, Math, Science, Humanities, Art and Design, RE, Music, French, PE, PSHE, and Computing, we adhere to the National Curriculum. Framlingham College Prep School recognizes the right amount of stretch and challenge required for each individual and pitches lessons accordingly, always providing the necessary level of support and encouragement that each child needs, and making sure they experience a deep sense of fulfillment from their learning.

Throughout Lower Prep, teaching advances and becomes more specialized. In Year 3, students are taught by specialists in Music, Drama, Computing, and Art. By Year 6, students are taught by specialists in all subject areas, preparing them for the Upper Prep years and beyond, even though they still have a Form Tutor for continuity and pastoral care.

By encouraging outside learning in the lovely, forested 23 acre grounds, we also offer variation in the lessons. For Math, Science, PE, and other subjects, Framlingham College Prep School can move the classroom outside. During recess, kids can construct dens, have fun on the Low Ropes course, or have unrestricted playtime in the meadow area and on the cut trails. The breathtaking grounds serve as the setting for early environmental and sustainability education for the students. Students begin to respect and feel responsibility for the natural world they live in through organized litter pickups and planting their own vegetable patches.

Framlingham College Prep School, a Microsoft Showcase School, understands the importance of giving students the skills they need to succeed in today's technologically advanced society. From Year 3 on, kids get twice-weekly ICT sessions, and by Year 6, using iPads for everything from research and preparation to generating presentations and videos is a crucial part of their education.

The teaching and learning philosophy at Framlingham College Prep School encourages students to appreciate learning, use critical thinking, and do their absolute best. In the Upper Prep years, Framlingham College Prep School particularly embraced this.

Framlingham College Prep School decided to abandon Common Entrance exams in order to make the most of these crucial transitional years and prepare each student for their senior school. This was done in an effort to instill in the students a genuine love of learning, a culture of high aspirations, and a spirit of inquiry.

The Year 7–9 Curriculum focuses on helping students develop an understanding of themselves and the rapidly changing world around them as well as the skills they need to excel at GCSE level, in contrast to the Common Entrance approach, which is based on knowledge-based exams (which one could argue is an exercise in memory and stamina).

Framlingham College Prep School is able to foster particular passions while challenging students to go deeper and pique their curiosity by focusing less on exams and more on a broad range of content and skills-based knowledge. The Extended Project Work, an independent-led assignment that Year 7–9 students do each term in which they investigate and present a topic of great interest to them, is a definite high point of this methodology.

Additionally, we are able to accomplish a lot more cross-curricular work than would typically be possible. For example, there is overlap between History and English, and the method allows the school to study these courses outside of their traditional compartments. This helps kids connect the dots and broaden their love of learning by giving them a more unified view of the world.

The curriculum of Framlingham College Prep School promotes students to grow in the following ways: independence, confidence, a good work ethic, drive to succeed, curiosity about the world, self-awareness, and positive self-esteem.

The themes help students become outward-looking global citizens by establishing connections between disciplines and giving them a broad perspective. The topics cover everything from warfare and innovation to identity and global power. Due to their increased flexibility, students are better equipped to adapt to their rapidly changing surroundings and successfully engage in modern society. The inquiry questions that support the topics are stimulating, provide connections between the students' many disciplines, and will give the students something to talk about with their professors, tutors, and at home.

This framework allows the school to integrate the arts across disciplines and supports each student's development of a strong appreciation for the arts.

Additionally, students have the chance to earn their "Arts Award," a distinction that honors young people's individual creative growth, starting in the Prep school and culminating in the Senior school. The Discover (Pre-Prep), Explore, and Bronze awards, which progress to Silver and Gold in the Senior school, will be offered to all Prep School students.

Children truly start to excel in their chosen Co-curricular activities throughout their Upper Prep years. They have discovered their individual hobbies and abilities and, as a result, have a crucial role to play as Sports or Subject Ambassadors, serving as role models and offering encouragement to the younger kids.

The activities program at Framlingham College Prep School also aims to include programs that develop the skills these older students are believed to require for the future. A great example is the debate club, which promotes current events conversations and increases knowledge of international problems. The settings for learning life skills that are necessary for moving up through the age groups are also provided by the residential tours. Many students' "Journeys of Self-Discovery" to Morocco and the Azores during their last years in the Prep school have been the high point.

Future Prospects

While demanding, the academic approach at Framlingham College Prep School gives teachers the freedom to be creative in their instruction, ensures that students continue their education into the senior school, and gives the kids the skills they will need to succeed in the workplace, at GCSE, and A Level exams. The Upper Preppers may gallantly pave the way for the following chapter of their educational travels thanks to a foundation like this, which makes the transfer feel quite natural. The ability to prepare students for the responsibilities of young adulthood while still allowing them to savor the magical moments of childhood is one of Upper Prep's greatest advantages.
