One of the top 30 International Baccalaureate schools in England is Greshams School, a public school (English independent day and boarding school) in Holt, Norfolk, England. After King Henry VIII dissolved Beeston Priory, Sir John Gresham built the school in 1555 as a free grammar school for forty boys. The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers of the City of London, who are now the school's trustees, received the endowments from the school's founder. In 1971, Greshams School started allowing females to enroll; today, it is entirely co-ed.

In Year 9, students complete the entire curriculum, which includes exposure to all of the humanities, sciences, and arts as well as up to three languages. Students in Years 10 and 11 can keep a wide variety of career options open by studying up to ten IGCSE and GCSE subjects. The Pre-IB course is a one-year program that the school gives to new Year 11 students.Students in the sixth form have the option of pursuing the IB Diploma Programme, which consists of a portfolio of three A level topics, or switching out one or two A levels for BTEC diplomas. Greshams School has quickly established a stellar reputation as an IB Diploma center of excellence, with graduates attending some of the most prominent universities in the world.Students who choose the IB will study six subjects and sit for tests in at least three of them at the Higher Level (HL) and three at the Standard Level (SL), depending on the student's option. School Life in Greshams School

Excellent athletic facilities are available at the school, and students can compete for their House and School in all sports throughout the year. On the school grounds, the Auden Theatre and Britten Building offer first-rate opportunities for both drama and music. Through participation in the Combined Cadet Force, students gain lifelong skills and have the opportunity to earn their Duke of Edinburgh's Award at various levels, from bronze to gold. Greshams School has strong ties to the neighborhood, where a number of projects are actively in progress. This year, the Holt Youth Project is the school charity. Through the GAPs program (Greshams School's Activity Programme), the school offers a rich extracurricular program that allows students to explore new opportunities and develop new abilities. All students have access to the excellent Woodland Activity Centre, which includes its own purpose built learning hut, assault course, high and low ropes course, climbing wall, and zip wire. Pupils in Year 9 participate in a "Survival Skills'' programme with their own Head of Adventure. Greshams School enjoys visiting foreign countries when it can, and recent excursions have included cricket and netball matches in Sri Lanka and trips to Kenya for their own environmental conservation initiative in the Maasai Mara.

In addition to morning, lunch, and evening activities, the school provides 4 afternoons each week where the co-curriculum can be taught. The schedule is set up to provide you the most flexibility possible. For instance, Greshams School now gives students the option to play their sport for 90 minutes while simultaneously participating in another activity before Prep at 5.30 p.m. This can range from extra academic support to time for the top athletes to access additional specialized support, rehabilitation, and strength and conditioning. Students can also attend academic colloquia, drama and music ensemble rehearsals, career/UCAS seminars, and the Year 9 Alpha group led by the Chaplain.

Future Prospects

Greshams School begins preparing students for this transition in the middle of Year 12, and the majority of the Sixth Form continue on to higher education. Through a comprehensive schedule of seminars, conferences, planned excursions, and one-on-one consultations, Greshams School tries to assist the students in making confident and educated judgments.
