The founding Headmaster and owner of Highfield School, Mr. EA Wells, established it in Southampton in 1892. With 18 students, the school began as a boys' prep. Highfield was relocated to its current 175-acre location in Liphook, near the borders of Hampshire, West Sussex, and Surrey, in 1904 by Mr. William Mills, who also served as the school's headmaster.
