In the village of Little Ness, there is a non-selective independent day and boarding school for girls called Adcote School. The institution was established in 1907. It belongs to the Independent Schools Council, the Girls School Association, and the Independent Schools Association (ISA).
70% of the 190 students at Adcote School are British. The remaining 30% represent more than 20 different nationalities, adding diversity from around the world to our typically British institution.
Programs at Adcote School
Students are welcomed to join Adcote School at the beginning of the Autumn, Spring, and Summer terms. Entry is through an interview, an evaluation, and a current school report. By special arrangement with the Headmistress, students may enroll at Adcote School in any year group and at any time during the academic year.
For both international students and their parents, the international admissions team offers a competitive and unrivaled service. Through the EAL (English as a Foreign Language) department, students can receive support and weekly instruction that is specifically customized to their needs as part of their normal schedule. The typical weekly provision is as follows:
Years 3-9: 1 hour per week (General English)
Years 10-11: 4 hours per week (Academic English Support and IGCSE English)
Years 12-13: 3 hours per week (Academic English Support, IELTS)
Based on each student's needs, special arrangements can also be developed. This may involve additional assistance with academic or general English as well as assistance with English language proficiency assessments (like Cambridge First or Advanced).
International students are eligible to enroll in Adcote School's short-term immersion program, which can last anywhere from one-half term to two terms. Many of the teachers will be familiar with the students and can help them adjust smoothly to the academic rigor of KS3 study. This offers students comfort and confidence as they begin Key Stage 3 learning. The girls graduate from the Prep School prepared for the GCSE requirements and the enthusiasm that comes with advancing to the Senior School.
Girls start preparing for GCSE exams and thinking about future jobs during senior school. They will not only continue to expand their academic knowledge and skills throughout this time, but they will also acquire traits and abilities that will prepare them for the future. In addition to preparing for their GCSE exams throughout their time in the Senior School, students will also gain valuable life skills and character traits from a curriculum that emphasizes more than simply academic success. These include teamwork, public speaking, debate, and leadership abilities. Adcote School fosters a friendly and compassionate environment, which is crucial when pupils in the Senior School experience growing test pressure. The pre-university culture at Adcote Sixth Form places a lot of pressure on the students to perform well. School Life at Adcote School
The pastoral care and support offered at Adcote School is first-rate. The school takes great pleasure in being one big family where you can always find someone to chat to. All girls in Year 9 and upwards are given a personal tutor when they first arrive at the school. The form coordinator performs this function at the prep school. The girls' and their parents' main point of contact will be with this person. Every term, the girls and their tutor have a formal conference to go over pastoral and academic progress. Additionally, any member of the House staff is available to assist boarders with any issues.
A Head of Section oversees each division of the school (Prep, Senior and Sixth Form). For special problems, Adcote School also has a Head of Student Services and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator on staff. Additionally, a counselor visits the girls' school once a week if they want to talk to someone outside of the classroom. The "Student Voice" is administered by the prefect team as well. Girls can use this forum to ask a "big sister" for assistance. Big sisters are frequently a key component in pastoral systems.
