An independent day and boarding school for boys, Bedford School is a public institution located in Bedford, England's county town. It was established in 1552 and is the oldest of the Harpur Trust's four independent schools in Bedford.
The Preparatory School (ages 7 to 13) and the Upper School make up Bedford School (ages 13 to 18). There are about 1,100 students total, with boarders making up about half of that number.

The GCSE or IGCSE curriculum for boys at Bedford School starts in Remove Form (Year 10). All exams are taken at the conclusion of the Fifth Form (Year 11), which is a two-year program .
The Fifth and Remove Forms at Bedford School are designed to provide all boys with a comprehensive and demanding curriculum. The extensive list of options is intended to provide boys with a well-balanced selection that will appeal to the majority and address their academic and vocational needs.
The three Sciences, the three Languages, Mathematics, English Language, and English Literature are all required courses for all students. The remaining three studies must include Geography, History, or Religious Studies (or all three), with one subject from each Option List. Each boy will also take one lesson in PE (Physical Education) and one lesson in Theory of Knowledge (ToK), which leads to the submission of an independent project.
Some disciplines at Bedford School enroll in the IGCSE program in order to achieve the best certification available at this level. Both the GCSE and IGCSE are accepted as equivalent qualifications for admission to universities, but by choosing the IGCSE in some subjects, Bedford School is able to offer the boys more options for suitable courses. Currently, English, Science, French, Spanish, German, History, Design & Technology, and English as a Second Language are the IGCSE subjects that are studied.
Boys who feel ready to specialize have the option of doing the Bedford Sixth Form Advanced Level (A-Level) course.
Most boys will study four courses in the Lower Sixth year and three of these subjects to A-Level certification at the end of the Lower Sixth year after internal assessment at the end of that year. Some people might decide to keep taking four subjects. These boys also benefit from a skills program that teaches them the abilities needed for university life and gives them the chance to finish an independent project on a subject beyond the scope of their course requirements. Boys in the advanced level have access to a variety of sporting and volunteer options, as well as a lecture series with influential guests from outside the school. The courses available are listed below; one must be selected from each block (but remember that the number of subjects usually reduces to three in the Upper Sixth). In the spring term of the Fifth Form, boys and parents get the finalized Option Blocks. As an alternative to A-Levels, Bedford offers the highly esteemed and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The IB recognizes the value of continuing, to some extent, the study of the student's mother tongue, a foreign language, mathematics, and science up to the conclusion of formal secondary education and allows students to gain depth of knowledge within their speciality areas while keeping breadth.
All IB students also take a Theory of Knowledge course, compose an extended essay on a subject that really interests them, and participate in an extracurricular program called Creativity, Activity, and Service. The Bedford School lads will find all of these extras to be very helpful when applying for university positions.

Boys are encouraged to participate in sports, regardless of their skill level, because it fosters and builds self-motivation, camaraderie, and teamwork.
Boys can participate in a vast array of co-curricular activities, including those that are artistic, athletic, academic, and of general interest. Bedford School strongly encourages boys to participate in a new activity each term when they join us (though most don't need much encouragement).
Every term, Bedford School encourages boys to take part in a different activity, giving them the chance to try out new pastimes and hone important qualities like leadership and cooperation.
There are many different clubs and groups offered by the school. When boys enroll, Bedford School actively encourages them to take part in a new activity each term and to try out activities they might not otherwise consider. It is the perfect technique to unearth hidden talents or new interests.
The annual clubs and societies fair, which kicks off each academic year, gives current student members a chance to advertise and market their organization to prospective students. While 50 clubs are reserved for boys enrolling in the Fourth Form, some groups are offered to more senior boys.
The Ministry of Defense (MOD), Bedford School, and Bedford Girls' School are partners in the national youth organization known as the Combined Cadet Force (CCF).
