Programs in Bournemouth Collegiate School

Children between the ages of 2 and 11 can benefit from a rewarding educational experience at Bournemouth Collegiate School Prep, which is a dynamic and active institution.

Children have a lot of opportunity to completely develop their unique abilities, talents, and personalities thanks to the curriculum's breadth and variety. The school enjoys an outstanding reputation for quality and is well renowned for being a modern, forward-thinking institution that promotes personal initiative, active learning, and creative thinking.

The first job is to make sure that the learning process for the youngest members of the Bournemouth Collegiate School community begins in a safe and secure setting. Each day is a new adventure for them. The children can explore, discover, and learn in spacious, attractive classrooms with top-notch amenities as they share in the delight of childhood. The children receive a high degree of individualized, individual care and attention thanks to the great worker to student ratio.

The curriculum is packed with engaging exercises to pique the kids' interest in learning. The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which is followed by Bournemouth Collegiate School, covers seven areas of learning and development.

The first year of mandatory schooling and the last year of the Early Years Foundation Stage is the Reception year. Large, well-lit classrooms with plenty of resources, as well as outdoor learning spaces, offer excellent environments for learning and development.

In keeping with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, there is a mix between learning via play and adult-led activities. When deciding what to do, reception teachers still consider the children's interests. Both within and outside of the classroom, learning occurs in both scheduled and unstructured learning contexts.

The school aims to blend the best qualities of a traditional Prep school, such as good manners, social responsibility, and academic excellence, while also staying current with 21st century society and stressing the value of self-awareness, pride in oneself, "it's good to be me," and, above all else, being a nice person.

Due to the importance placed on a well-rounded education, academic standards are also high and students are making excellent progress.

The first three years of core curriculum study (Years 7-9) are intended to expose students to a wide range of subjects so that they can make well-informed selections regarding their GCSE alternatives. They are on a path to intellectual maturity, and Bournemouth Collegiate School wishes to support, encourage, and involve them along the way. During Year 9, students choose their GCSE options with the help of their tutor, subject teachers, and representatives from the Careers department. Math and English language/literature are required courses for all students. Additionally, students will study science, which can result in a double award certificate (equal to two GCSEs). However, some students may want to be considered for the Triple Science.  Throughout Year 9, Bournemouth Collegiate School is committed to giving all students the help and direction they require regarding their possibilities; in essence, students are encouraged to think about a balanced approach to their subject choices. Students are originally given a free choice of any four alternatives (or three for Triple Science), however it is challenging to guarantee specific subject combinations from year to year, even though it is likely that the vast majority of students will get their preferences. Additionally, parents will have the chance to attend a parents' evening to talk with their kids' instructors about their option preferences.

The sixth form at Bournemouth Collegiate School is a world away from the traditional school environment; this is the stage of education when students are encouraged to grow and develop personally, academically, and professionally with a greater sense of independence and responsibility.

Students in the sixth form at Bournemouth Collegiate School can select from a wide variety of A-Level and BTEC options for their next level of education.

Students often enroll in three subjects, which may be all A-Levels, all BTECs, or a mix of the two.

The BTECs Bournemouth Collegiate School offers are comparable to one A-Level, and they typically work well for the students because they are concentrated on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal, and thinking skills necessary to be successful in both higher education and the workforce.

Numerous study programs are available at Bournemouth Collegiate School that are especially useful for students who are not citizens of the UK.

A student may enroll in the Pre-A Level Course for two or three semesters beginning in September or January.

The Pre A Level Course is designed for overseas students whose English proficiency is still insufficient to enroll in the A Level program. The goal is to help students develop linguistic proficiency appropriate for A Level study while also helping them improve their English. The Pre A Level Course is intended to be completed by students with the possibility of continuing on to the two-year A Level at Bournemouth Collegiate School. The transition will be verified by an EAL assessment at the end of the year, and topic selection for the A Level will be guided by results from other exams.

The course structure offers students the chance to take a GCSE in a language in which they are natural speakers, IGCSE mathematics, intensive EAL, preparation for the FCE/CAE exams, and graded courses in business, the visual arts, science, and physical education.

In addition to the two hours of scheduled study time each week, students are required to study independently in order to fulfill the deadlines for their assignments and exams. Additionally, every subject has a daily academic clinic at Bournemouth Collegiate School.

School Life

In addition to musical and sporting events, celebrations of the arts, academics, chess, symphony evenings, house events, career talks, scholar twilight seminars, and much more, Bournemouth Collegiate School Senior offers a wide range of co-curricular activities. Every term, options change, and Bournemouth Collegiate School is always open to student proposals for specific clubs that should be included. The DofE Award Scheme provides students with a great opportunity to earn a nationally recognized award that is a true test of their resiliency, will help them develop their character and life skills, can help others, and will look impressive on their resumes when they move forward in their education and careers. Students have the option to start at the foundational Bronze level in Year 9 and advance through Silver and Gold in the subsequent years. Each level has four sections: helping others, learning a skill, improving in a physical activity, and going on an expedition.

All year groups are planned for a range of excursions and extracurricular events each year, which may be local, national, or worldwide.

Commitment, one of the four C's Bournemouth Collegiate School embodies, is nowhere more evident than at Bournemouth Collegiate School Sport.

Sport at Bournemouth Collegiate School keeps thriving, and we're proud of the inclusive program we offer to make sure students have access to experiences they can all benefit from.

The students' physical health has always been prioritized above all else, along with their mental health, which is equally critical and has never been more crucial.

The physical education program offers physically demanding land- and water-based activities in a variety of settings, aids in the development of self-confidence and self-discipline, and significantly impacts students' personal and social growth.

Future Prospects

Throughout their studies, sixth-form students have the chance to hear from a variety of insightful internal and external speakers. Internet safety, chiropractic careers, the Middle East crisis, the role of the RNLI, and the National Citizen Service are a few examples of previous subjects. Through the tutor program, career advice and guidance is offered, and the head of sixth form and the careers advisor work closely with each student. Every student has a Unifrog account, which helps them with their career education and gives them access to webinars, MOOCS, subject guides, and application support. Additionally, Bournemouth Collegiate School hosts a Futures Day in Year 12 where students learn about a wide range of post-secondary options. Additionally, Bournemouth Collegiate School takes students to the UCAS Discovery convention at one of the nearby universities where they can learn about a wide range of academic and career opportunities.
