Sligo Grammar School
Sligo Grammar School is a coed, private, fee-paying boarding school that is situated on The Mall. There are about 450 pupils enrolled at the institution, of whom 100 board there. Along with the required Transition Year, it offers the standard Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programs. It is governed by the Church of Ireland.
For more than 400 years, the school has existed in numerous guises, its governing documents reflecting the shifting values and requirements of society. A portion of the Charter institution, which opened in 1752 with a royal charter and dissolved in 1843, is now included into the current institution.
Programs
The curriculum at Sligo Grammar School is designed to cover a wide range of topics for both the Junior and Leaving Certificates.
All of the international students at Sligo Grammar School have access to high-quality TEFL instruction, which helps those who are interested in taking the Cambridge Examinations.
All subjects for the Junior and Leaving Cert exams are available at both the higher level and the ordinary level, and pupils are urged to aspire for the higher level wherever possible. Sligo Grammar School has a strong track record in this area; for instance, in 2015 alone, 81% of all exams were taken at a higher level, and nearly 30% of students received 500 points or more.
At the upper level of the Leaving Cert, Sligo Grammar School provides Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Agricultural Science. Additionally, Sligo Grammar School provides Applied Math, which many students feel is a good supplement to their physics studies.
The new Junior Cycle science curriculum covers space research. The Sligo Grammar School Science Department prepared a unique "Earth and Space Day" to introduce this subject to the first and second year students. During their visit, "Sirius," a firm founded by scientists who had previously worked at the Armagh Planetarium, showcased a 3D show that explored the many interesting facets of space. They talked on the significance of space exploration, its advantages, and its risks. They also provided the pupils a glimpse into what it's like to be an astronaut. The talk was well received by the first- and second-year students because this topic is usually attractive to them. Thank you to the "Sirius" scientists for the demonstration and talk, as well as to the science teachers who planned the outing.
Sligo Grammar School's mathematics department is dedicated to offering a demanding and encouraging curriculum that will enable success in school and beyond. For many years, Sligo Grammar School has offered Woodwork and Construction Studies at both the Junior and Leaving Cert levels. A specially constructed workshop at Sligo Grammar School is well-equipped for each of these subject areas. In the Junior Certificate, students study Materials Technology - Wood, and in the Leaving Certificate, they study Construction Studies. We're delighted to state that both boys and girls enjoy this subject equally.
Both Junior and Leaving Cert levels of Business Studies are available. For the Leaving Cert, Accounting is also offered in Sligo Grammar School.
It is possible for students studying these courses to travel to nearby and distant enterprises. These field visits provide students the chance to observe business in action and make what they learn in the classroom more applicable.
The Transition Year program has existed for a long time at Sligo Grammar School. For the students, this year is quite significant because it gives them the chance to develop their maturity and experience.

Every year at T.Y., a small business is established.
DATS (Differential Aptitude Test) assessment is also done for TY students. The purpose of this test is to reveal the pupils' innate talent. Students will have greater knowledge about the subjects they should choose for their Leaving Cert based on the results of the DATS Testing.
The Transition Year offers a special chance to concentrate on other pursuits. The more motivated and ambitious can receive their President's Award by participating in physical activity, acquiring a new skill, and community service. The school magazine, which will be published four times during this academic year in four different newsletters, sponsored swims, fundraising events, an exhibition of work, and the presentation of awards at the end of the year are all excellent ways to gain work experience for future career decisions.
The study of home economics is a major component of daily life at Sligo Grammar School. All during the week, the HE kitchens emit wonderful aromas, and the students frequently hold bake sales to raise money. When a bake sale for a good cause is announced at assembly, every student in the school is thrilled, and the lines to purchase cookies and buns are unbelievable!

School Life
The Sligo Grammar School supports the value of a well-rounded education. There is always a lot going on at school, and students have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities and hobbies. Participation in extracurricular activities fosters students' personal growth and development as well as their ability to make lasting friends.
A significant aspect of daily life at Sligo Grammar School is fundraising. Every year the group actively participates in raising money for a variety of charities, many of which are regional. Students put a lot of effort into fundraising throughout Transition Year. Every year, activities are planned for the entire school to collect money for organizations.
Around 100 pupils are currently enrolled in Sligo Grammar School's music program, which offers a variety of musical options at the Junior and Leaving Certificate levels. This program emphasizes the three key areas of listening, composing, and performance. TY students have the option of enrolling in a musical performance class that involves performing with a selected instrument. In recent years, music technology has also been introduced.
Additionally, during and after school hours, the school provides private voice, piano, guitar, violin, and saxophone instruction. No prior musical expertise is required.
For many years, an integral part of school life at Sligo Grammar School has been the choir. They perform during the Prize Day Service, the Remembrance Service, and the Carol Service annually. Mr. Alfred Potter formed the Sligo Grammar School Choir in its current form in the fall of 1986. The choir has some excellent soloists and some exceptionally outstanding singers. They have recorded two CDs and performed on national radio and television.
The importance of sport in the lives of Sligo Grammar School cannot be overstated. Some of the West of Ireland's top sporting facilities may be found on the school site. The school additionally expands its athletics program by using a number of off-campus venues.
It is hardly surprising that many students participate in sports and leisure activities given the variety of facilities available.
