A public technological institution called South East Technological University is situated in Ireland's South East. It was founded through the combination of two existing institutes of technology in the region - Waterford IT and IT Carlow. Its formation was announced in November 2021 and formally created on 1 May 2022 after years of planning and discussion. It is the only university located in the South East of Ireland.

A professional qualification that develops the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed by human resource professionals today is available through the human resource management stream. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has approved the course (CIPD). All facets of human resource management (HRM), employee development, employee welfare, and employment relations are covered by the South East Technological University stream, which also establishes connections between HRM and the larger business environment. The culture of the South East Technological University is heavily influenced by sport. The purpose of the sports department of South East Technological University is to foster an inclusive atmosphere that supports both students and the general public as they pursue their goals for competitive and performance sports, as well as for their health and general well-being.
With over 100 sports clubs and societies operating across the Carlow, Waterford, and Wexford Campuses, there is a huge variety of activities to choose from. These clubs and societies cater for all standards, from national and international athletes to the person who would like to try a new activity, join a group, or increase their social circle while enjoying their time at South East Technological University.
The Disability Support Program offers assistance to children with a variety of disabilities, such as developmental coordination deficit, ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, substantial persistent sickness, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and specific learning issues (ASD). Students must register with the disability office and present documentation of their disabilities in order to get support. Students who register with the disability office are provided with a needs evaluation through which services are granted. South East Technological University is a participating member of the HEAR scheme and provides a number of reduced points course spaces to HEAR eligible applicants who have encountered additional educational difficulties in second level education as a result of socioeconomic adversity. HEAR is available to recent graduates who are residents of the Republic of Ireland and who will be under the age of 23 on January 1st of the year of entry.

As a participant in the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE), South East Technical University has set aside a number of reduced points course spots for DARE applicants. For school-leavers whose disabilities negatively affected their second-level education, DARE is an alternative admissions program. To school dropouts who have encountered significant scholastic difficulties in second level education as a result of their disability, DARE offers reduced points spots through the CAO.
